I am sure most of us use RealVNC no matter for personal or office usage. Today, I tried to install the RealVNC into a few new VMs that I am using, the installation was slick and smooth however VNC is not working in the first try.
When I try to VNC from my main machine to these VMs, I encounter this error: "unable to connect to host: connection timed out (10060)".
After doing some googling, apparently it was due to Windows Firewall blocking the VNC Server from listening. In order to resolve this issue, we need to add the VNC Server to the Windows Firewall exception list.
Below are the steps (Windows XP only):
1. Click on 'Start' > 'Control Panel'.
2. Select 'Windows Firewall'.
3. Click on the 'Exceptions' tab.
4. Click on 'Add Program' button.
5. Browse to 'C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4\winvnc4.exe' (default installation path for RealVNC server file).
6. Click on 'OK' button for all forms to apply the changes.
Then, VNC should work like a charm.
